If you can answer that then you can answer these other questions&#8230;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>Well, they are in the same space and the same time and they\u2019re not interfering with one<\/em><br \/>\n<em>another. In Zen this is called non-obstruction. But they interpenetrate; I can look at both at the<\/em><br \/>\n<em>same time and in me they become an experience which may not be the same as comes to someone else&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">John Cage<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><em>&#8220;Cunningham is the most advanced choreographer on the planet (&#8230;)<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Merce\u2019s dance is already a kind of futuristic Artificial Intelligence&#8230;&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Keneth King (1992, 87)<\/p>\n<p>Que Merce Cunningham ha estat un dels referents indiscutibles de les arts esc\u00e8niques dels darrers 70 anys \u00e9s inq\u00fcestionable. El nou paradigma de l\u2019escena contempor\u00e0nia -no nom\u00e9s per la dansa nord-americana i europea- sin\u00f3 per tota la creaci\u00f3 global, segueix sostenint-se en moltes de les seves aportacions. Cunningham va trencar definitivament amb el model de l\u2019obra d\u2019art total wagneriana i amb el concepte de representaci\u00f3 tot performant les idees i mecanismes compositius procedents de les primeres avantguardes del Dad\u00e0, el Surrealisme i la Bauhaus fruit dels exilis europeus, especialment de Josef Albers qui com a docent del Black Mountain College va incidir molt directament en tota una generaci\u00f3 americana, i va marcar a Cage\/Cunningham.<\/p>\n<p>Aquestes idees i contactes foren aglutinades pel nucli d\u2019artistes pl\u00e0stics i musicals a l\u2019entorn del llavors matrimoni Max Ernst\/Peggy Gugenheim amb qui John Cage convivia en el NY de la segona guerra i postguerra mundial. A totes elles s\u2019hi sumaren la influ\u00e8ncia del pensament oriental, del Budisme zen i l\u2019I ching, contextualizant el seu art en la trepidant ciutat de NY en els anys de la guerra freda. Aquestes foren les fonts del plantejament creatiu del t\u00e0ndem Cage\/Cunningham que es va eixamplar al costat de Robert Rauschenberg i Jasper Johns, Donald Judd o el mateix Andy Warhol, Roy Lichenstein i Frank Stella, representants del Pop Art, allunyats de l\u2019expressionisme abstracte d\u2019un Pollock per exemple i al costat dels compositors com Earle Brown, Morton Feldman, David Tudor o Christian Wolff (coneguts com l\u2019escola de NY).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cL\u2019alliberaci\u00f3\u201d de la dansa respecte a l\u2019estructura dram\u00e0tica tant pr\u00f2pia del Ballet, aix\u00ed com del \u201cjou\u201d de l\u2019estructura compositiva, r\u00edtmica i mel\u00f2dica respecte a la m\u00fasica; o l\u2019\u00fas i percepci\u00f3 de l\u2019espai desjerarquitzat a les ant\u00edpodes del concepte de perspectiva cl\u00e0ssica i frontalitat de la quarta paret; les propostes compositives basades en procediments d\u2019aleatorietat; el di\u00e0leg horitzontal entre dansa i proposta pl\u00e0stica; l\u2019autonomia del moviment i del gest independent del seu significat:\u201cLa base de la dansa \u00e9s el moviment, \u00e9s a dir, el cos hum\u00e0 movent-se en l\u2019espai i el temps (&#8230;) una determinada dansa no s\u2019origina en un pensament meu sobre una hist\u00f2ria, un estat d\u2019\u00e0nim o una expressi\u00f3; les proporcions de la dansa procedeixen de l\u2018activitat en si\u201d (Cunninhgam, a Lesschaeve, 1999); o la reformulaci\u00f3 d\u2019una t\u00e8cnica de moviment que es despr\u00e8n de la representaci\u00f3 emocional del ballar\u00ed i connecta els fonaments del tren inferior del Ballet amb les possibilitats de moviment dels segments del cap, esquena, pelvis i extremitats dels ballarins, en s\u00f3n eixos fonamentals.<\/p>\n<p>Totes aquestes formulacions s\u00f3n aportacions visibles posteriorment en la dansa postmoderna, en l\u2019escenficaci\u00f3 de Wilson, Peter Brook, o en el mateix William Forsythe com exemples de la seva petjada. \u201cMerce Cunningham va obrir m\u00e9s portes per les generacions properes que ell mateix anhelava travessar \u201c(Carolyn Brown 1992, 229).<\/p>\n<p>Curi\u00f3s i inquiet per l\u2019evoluci\u00f3 dels llenguatges audiovisuals i la tecnologia va explorar juntament amb els artistes digitals Paul Kaiser i Shelley Eshkar un software que a partir de la captaci\u00f3 de imatges m\u00f2bils de ballarins possibilitava la seva transformaci\u00f3 i composici\u00f3 en projecci\u00f3 digital. Aix\u00ed a trav\u00e9s del software Life Forms va pujar a escena ballarins virtuals i va ampliar les possibilitats a que la coreografia fos fins i tot assistida per la Intel\u00b7lig\u00e8ncia Artificial, cosa que avui dia i en el context de la digitalitzaci\u00f3 de la vida en l\u2019era COVID no sona ja gens estrany. Una traject\u00f2ria guiada per la curiositat, la innovaci\u00f3 i la recerca.<\/p>\n<p>Poder presenciar un programa amb 24 ballarins en escena, amb una producci\u00f3 de qualitat, amb m\u00fasics en directe i un repertori de Merce Cunningham \u00e9s una realitat cultural dif\u00edcil de trobar en el context local. I es pot entendre per una suma de d\u2019aspectes: talent i excel\u00b7l\u00e8ncia professional dels responsables art\u00edstics del CC de Lorraine; pol\u00edtiques culturals de suport a la dansa francesa que encara fan possible creacions de gran format; voluntat pedag\u00f2gica d\u2019establir ponts entre dansa i societat, i per sobre de tot el respecte i tribut per un dels referents m\u00e9s destacats de l\u2019escena coreogr\u00e0fica de la segona meitat del s. XX, del qual els directors art\u00edstics i de recerca del Ballet de Lorraine -Petter Jacobsson i Thomas Caley- en s\u00f3n hereus directes.<\/p>\n<p>La seva brillant traject\u00f2ria professional com a int\u00e8rprets, repetidors, creadors i gestors de projectes desenvolupats tant a Nova York com a Su\u00e8cia s\u00f3n el bagatge i sost\u00e9n d\u2019aquest projecte espec\u00edfic.<\/p>\n<p>Aixoplugat en la commemoraci\u00f3 del Centenari del naixement de Merce Cunningham (19019-2019) que va propiciar, exposicions, documentals i re-escenificacions, el context del Festival de Tardor de Par\u00eds al Th\u00e9\u00e2tre National de la Danse al Palais de Chaillot (2019) va permetre al Ballet de Lorraine projectar el treball de Cunningham escenificant tres peces de per\u00edodes diferents. re-Creaci\u00f3 i repertori permetent abra\u00e7ar la corretja de transmissi\u00f3 del coneixement encarnat del llenguatge ef\u00edmer de la dansa a trav\u00e9s de la pr\u00e0ctica pedag\u00f2gica per joves generacions, de la pr\u00e0ctica esc\u00e8nica i de la recreaci\u00f3 coreogr\u00e0fica combinant els instruments metodol\u00f2gics propis de la disciplina com la transmissi\u00f3 oral\/corporal, els arxius, la arqueo-coreografia a partir de fonts escrites i en el cas de For Four Wall abordar la recreaci\u00f3 des de la mem\u00f2ria i el mirall cultural cr\u00edtic fent dialogar el passat amb el present des de l\u2019experi\u00e8ncia del propi Thomas Caley (ex-ballar\u00ed i repetidor de la Cunningham Foundation) que homenatja al mestre des de la seva petjada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>Ester Vendrell Sales<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/develop.mercatflors.cat\/espectacle\/3-coreografies-de-merce-cunningham-for-four-walls-rain-forest-i-sounddance\/\"><strong>BALLET DE LORRAINE presenta &#8216;Programa Cunningham: For Four Walls, Rain Forest i Sounddance&#8217; al Mercat de les Flors del 19 al 21 de mar\u00e7 de 2021<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Bibliografia<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>AA.VV. <em>Dancers on a plane<\/em>. <em>Cage, Cunningham, Johns<\/em>.
