El sentit l\u2019aporta alguna cosa interna: una convicci\u00f3 o direcci\u00f3 interior, el guerrer de la quadriga. Per a mi, la dansa sempre ha tingut un servei social, de servei, de transformaci\u00f3; sempre ha tingut una dimensi\u00f3 metaf\u00edsica i pr\u00e0ctica alhora. Sempre he volgut ser el xaman que somia els somnis de la tribu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Cesc Gelabert: <em>El que m\u2019agradaria que la dansa fos<\/em> (2020)<\/p>\n<p>A hores d\u2019ara, amb m\u00e9s de cinquanta anys de professi\u00f3 a l\u2019espatlla i una traject\u00f2ria brillant a dins i a fora de casa nostra, amb m\u00e9s de mig segle de reconeixements, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 de saber-se S\u00edsif que escala la muntanya de fort pendent que \u00e9s la dansa al nostre pa\u00eds, assumint quan toca de carregar la pedra de tots a contracorrent de la pol\u00edtica cultural dels moments menys afortunats, a hores d\u2019ara \u2013dic\u2013, quan el veter\u00e0 core\u00f2graf i ballar\u00ed s\u2019atura en peces com <em>Framing Time<\/em> a prendre les mides de cada d\u2019un dels seus instruments (el cos, el cor i la ment, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 el temps i l\u2019espai, la m\u00fasica i la llum, tan pertinents en aquest pe\u00e7a per al Baryshnikov Arts Center de Nova York), a l\u2019espectador se li imposa una constataci\u00f3: que el cos de Cesc Gelabert \u00e9s savi, gener\u00f3s, adaptable.<\/p>\n<p>Sobri avui en l\u2019esfor\u00e7, per\u00f2 tant o m\u00e9s ric d\u2019emocions i de concepte que abans, el ballar\u00ed balla com sempre ho ha ent\u00e8s i sentit: habitant el cos amb el cor i la ment, evitant-se esfor\u00e7os buits i vivint amb naturalitat i plena significaci\u00f3 cada moment. No ho ha fet pas diferent abans, i per aquesta ra\u00f3 l\u2019int\u00e8rpret ha solcat m\u00e9s de mig segle d\u2019alegries, per molt que no hagi estat f\u00e0cil, precisament. Hi ha ajudat fer-ho amb la seva companya, Lydia Azzopardi, mestra de dansa i tan mentalment apol\u00b7l\u00ednia com ell. No debades l\u2019adaptabilitat tan zen de Gelabert \u00e9s gaireb\u00e9 femenina. \u201cBe Water, my Friend\u201d. Aix\u00ed s\u2019amotlla a les coses, ajustat als temps, a l\u2019espai, al cos propi i al dels altres, conscient d\u2019on \u00e9s en cada moment, mil\u00b7lim\u00e8tric, segur.<\/p>\n<p>Abans de consolidar tot aix\u00f2 en una companyia professional amb la Lydia, ja s\u2019havia iniciat en la dansa de la m\u00e0 de dones com Anna Maleras (a l\u2019Estudi i a la companyia del mateix nom) o amb la seva germana, Toni Gelabert, dins la experimentaci\u00f3 d\u2019all\u00f2 que van batejar com a Espai de Dansa, gaireb\u00e9 una desena d\u2019anys abans que la Toni fund\u00e9s La F\u00e0brica. \u00c9s all\u00e0 on va con\u00e8ixer la Lydia. I la companyia que van posar en marxa junts el 1985, Gelabert-Azzopardi, ha estat la que, dins l\u2019\u00e0mbit aut\u00f2cton de la dansa, millor ha assumit un punt de continu\u00eftat de la tradici\u00f3 po\u00e8tica, pl\u00e0stica i musical catalana de creadors com J. V. Foix, Joan Brossa, Gaud\u00ed, Mir\u00f3, Frederic Amat, Perejaume, Carles Santos o Mompou. La dansa de Gelabert tamb\u00e9 \u00e9s una m\u00fasica callada, una partitura silent de signes que s\u2019organitza serena i s\u00f2bria amb gestos carregats de sentit. Despr\u00e9s cada espectador hi projectar\u00e0 el que vol (\u201cEspectador, tota l\u2019escena representa el teu cervell, tota l\u2019escena representa el teu cos: senyor P\u00fablic, pari de fer-nos a la seva imatge\u201d, ens deia ell el 2016 a <em>Escrit en l\u2019aire<\/em> amb mots de Val\u00e8re Novarina). Per\u00f2, si tot plegat t\u00e9 ple sentit ja d\u2019entrada, \u00e9s per ell, amb ell i en ell.<\/p>\n<p>A <em>Framing Time<\/em> no \u00e9s estrany tenir la sensaci\u00f3 que hi ha bona sintonia entre el catal\u00e0 i Baryshnikov. El 2003 Gelabert li va crear la pe\u00e7a titulada <em>In<\/em> <em>a Landscape<\/em> per a la companyia White Oak Dance Project i, com a ballarins, tots dos coincideixen sobretot en les ganes d\u2019experimentaci\u00f3 (als anys 1979-1980, Gelabert ja havia estrenat en espais de l\u2019escena neoiorquina d\u2019avantguarda com La MaMa o The Kitchen). Coincideixen en la curiositat, l\u2019obertura de mires, la generositat creadores, i comparteixen tamb\u00e9 una concepci\u00f3 espiritual de la dansa que tant t\u00e9 a veure amb el cos com amb la ment i la emoci\u00f3. Alhora, per a tots dos la dansa \u00e9s servei, una experi\u00e8ncia comunit\u00e0ria que ha d\u2019arribar a la vida de tothom i que, per personal i original que sigui en el terreny de l\u2019art, guanya for\u00e7a a mesura que se sap de tots i recolza sobre la tradici\u00f3 col\u00b7lectiva. Quan Gelabert ha volgut donar a la seva dansa accent propi, catal\u00e0 i d\u2019aqu\u00ed, a Barcelona, el que ha pret\u00e8s es posar-la en comuni\u00f3 amb una determinada idea d\u2019avantguarda. Per aix\u00f2 ha defensat sempre la \u201cdiversitat informada\u201d de qu\u00e8 hem de dotar aquesta art; \u00e9s a dir, aportar diversitat al conjunt del m\u00f3n a partir de la riquesa de cada una de les nostres singularitats, per\u00f2 sense deixar d\u2019estar informats i d\u2019alimentar-nos de totes les dels altres. Voler aix\u00f2 no \u00e9s pas essencialment diferent de quan Baryshnikov s\u2019havia interessat per la transdisplinarietat dels Ballets Russos de Di\u00e0guilev, la follia il\u00b7luminada de Nijinski i les can\u00e7ons d\u2019un cantautor alcoholitzat i rebel com Vissotski (mireu la for\u00e7a amb qu\u00e8 ballava la seva veu trencada a la pel\u00b7l\u00edcula <em>White Nights<\/em>), o com ha impulsat creadors de tots els estils al BAC de Nova York (Baryshnikov Arts Center), on el 2018 Gelabert estrenava la pe\u00e7a que ara arriba al Mercat.<\/p>\n<p><em>Framing Time<\/em> va posar en contacte, primer, la m\u00fasica minimalista de Morton Feldman amb l\u2019artista pl\u00e0stic Burke Brown, que \u00e9s qui va crear el fons escenogr\u00e0fic de tessel\u00b7les blanques semitransparents que, com a instal\u00b7laci\u00f3, acompanya la m\u00fasica de Feldman i la coreografia de Gelabert. A la pe\u00e7a el pianista no \u00e9s invisible, pero hi mant\u00e9 la mateixa actitud humil, per intensa que sigui, del core\u00f2graf. I com la m\u00fasica, els requadrets de l\u2019escenografia desgranen delicadesa i subtilitat. La partitura de Feldman \u00e9s lluny del to insistent de Reich o Glass, cosa que facilita que Gelabert pugui c\u00f3rrer molt m\u00e9s lliure, al seu aire, per\u00f2 amb un material igualment delimitat, fet de passos i gestos tan seus que ens s\u00f3n familiars des de fa anys, ordenats i reordenats en s\u00e8ries que l\u2019int\u00e8rpret farceix encara avui de matisos i detalls. Passant per cada part del cos, examinant-se ell i el que l\u2019envolta, l\u2019obra agafa per moments el fil de molts espectacles anteriors. De nou, podr\u00edem dedicar-li aquells mots de Novarina que, a <em>Escrit en l\u2019aire<\/em>, semblaven resar al cos com a temple sagrat. \u201cCrani nostre, com una pedra al mig del pensament. Boca nostra, com un forat al mig de la cara. Llengua nostra, com el fuet de l\u2019aire. Carn nostra, com un pensament per a alg\u00fa altre. Ull nostre, com el llum del cos. Cos nostre, com el cap de les extremitats. Bra\u00e7, m\u00e0 nostra, \u00f2rgan del llenguatge, pelvis, engonal nostra, cama&#8230; i, sobretot, tu, peu nostre, que est\u00e0s pacient dins les sabates\u201d. Els solos de Cesc Gelabert s\u00f3n el millor parenostre que podem oferir a l\u2019escena de la dansa.<\/p>\n<p>Es relaciona amb solos del passat com els dos en qu\u00e8 el ballar\u00ed reinterpretava els treballs de l\u2019alemany Gerhard Bonher, a <em>Im (goldenen) Schnitt<\/em> (\u00e9s a dir, <em>La secci\u00f3 daurada<\/em> I i II, del 1995 i el 1999, respectivament), o b\u00e9 <em>Preludis<\/em> (2002) i <em>Glimpse<\/em> (2004), on tot aquest treball assag\u00edstic i metaart\u00edstic prenia ja accents m\u00e9s personals. En totes aquestes peces el core\u00f2graf hi feia inventari del mateix itinerari corporal i espacial visitat a <em>Framing Time<\/em> (2018) o explicitat, fa ben poc, al llegat en forma d\u2019assaig del seu llibre <em>El que m\u2019agradaria que la dansa fos<\/em> (2020). Cada part del cos hi \u00e9s repassada i adopta el rol, el car\u00e0cter i les textures que millor li escauen. Dels darrers anys, podr\u00edem considerar exploracions similars, des de tons i accents diversos, propostes com la de <em>Cesc Gelabert interpreta Vicente Escudero<\/em>, el juganer <em>Escrit en l\u2019aire<\/em> o, quan la companyia va deixar el seu estudi de tants anys al carrer Dom\u00e8nech de Gr\u00e0cia, la s\u00e8rie dels dotze microsolos de <em>Dom\u00e8nech<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Potser com a \u00faltima estaci\u00f3 d\u2019un projecte d\u2019autoexploraci\u00f3 que sempre ha fet per compartir, a <em>Framing Time<\/em> sembla que l\u2019int\u00e8rpret s\u2019hi despulli. L\u2019hi sentim molt m\u00e9s introspectiu. Fins i tot fr\u00e0gil. Hi ha moments de comuni\u00f3 molt directa amb l\u2019espectador, com quan l\u2019interpel\u00b7la amb el tu a tu de la mirada. El desenvolupament coreogr\u00e0fic \u00e9s ric, elaborat, per\u00f2 tamb\u00e9 sincer i directe en l\u2019execuci\u00f3 material, que hi pren pes propi. Per aix\u00f2 emociona, tan transparent com la pantalla de tesel\u00b7les progressivament il\u00b7luminades, de la qual el ballar\u00ed arranca formes expressionistes quan hi passa per darrere i se\u2019n transparenten llargues ombres expressionistes a l\u2019estil de les figures de Giacometti. Hi ha estones en qu\u00e8 sembla un nen que juga. Hi reconeixem passos a\u00efllats de ball tradicional i d\u2019altres amb ritme de dansa jazz, amb una actitud contempor\u00e0nia compartida que s\u2019obre sencera a l\u2019experimentaci\u00f3 d\u2019avantguarda. Gelabert hi posa segur humor, vitalitat. I, en la riquesa de tots, en algun moment solt, a l\u2019espectador li pot semblar entreveure-hi tamb\u00e9 un punt de malenconia. Accents juvenils es barregen amb el to greu de la maduresa. I l\u2019eleg\u00e0ncia \u00e9s tan neta com sensual, per com destil\u00b7la misteri al costat de la precisi\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>\u00c9s per tot aix\u00f2 que <em>Framing Time<\/em> \u00e9s una pe\u00e7a tan metadiscursiva i autobiogr\u00e0fica com les obres esmentades dalt. Ara b\u00e9: el registre \u00e9s m\u00e9s despullat que mai, com de qui ha passat en net l\u2019apr\u00e8s, despr\u00e9s de mil i un assaigs. Amb m\u00e9s control i m\u00e9s l\u00edmits autoimposats, per\u00f2 per tal de mostrar-se tan lliure i sincer com sempre. Ara Gelabert escriu aix\u00ed: blanc sobre blanc, sol, per\u00f2 amb la companyia de l\u2019apr\u00e8s d\u2019altres, dels ressons d\u2019altres, de la mirada dels altres.
